### Definition

The Road 1 narrative -- the affordability lie -- that pins upmarket rooms with a carve-out exemption from the argument while holding everyone else to it. Placement: wherever the Road 1 operator's financial bind is taught, surfacing in Profit fundamental material.

### Explanation

The affordability lie tells the mid-market and value-tier operator that they cannot afford to invest in the upstream repair -- cast development, relational infrastructure, the standard itself -- because the margin isn't there. [Transactional Lie #1] exposes the carve-out inside that same narrative: upmarket rooms are quietly exempted from the argument, as if affordability constraints only apply below a certain price point.

That exemption gives away the lie. If the underlying economics genuinely forbade the investment, they'd forbid it everywhere pricing power is thinner -- not stop applying exactly where the argument becomes inconvenient. The operator who sees this carve-out clearly stops accepting the affordability framing as fixed economic law and starts treating it as what it is: a story that Road 1 tells to justify not doing the harder upstream work.
