# The Operators Constraint

### Definition

Locked as sub-element under [Operator Throughput]. The specific layer of the operator's interior pipeline that is rate-limiting the system at any given moment -- the operator-layer equivalent of the Theory of Constraints bottleneck. Identified through [The Read].

### Explanation

Every operator has some layer of their own internal pipeline that's currently capping what the whole operation can produce, whether that's decision-cycle speed, the read itself, delegation capacity, or something else. [The Operator's Constraint] borrows the bottleneck logic directly: improving anything other than the actual constraint doesn't raise system output, it just builds slack somewhere that wasn't the limiting factor.

The practical discipline is using [The Read] to identify which layer is actually constraining throughput before investing effort in improving a layer that isn't the bottleneck. Sibling terms [Throughput-Floor Effect] and [Throughput Expansion] describe what happens on either side of correctly identifying and working the constraint.
