# The Glitch

### Definition

The Guest-side experience of receiving a performed hospitality persona instead of a genuinely present person -- the room is technically correct, and the experience is empty.

### Explanation

[The Glitch] names what the Guest actually perceives when they encounter [The Workaraunt] or [Singing] from the receiving end. The service mechanics all check out -- greeting delivered, order taken correctly, food arrived on time -- and something still feels off, the way a glitch in an otherwise smooth system draws attention precisely because everything around it is functioning normally.

The term is useful because it names the Guest's side of a mechanism that's usually described from the operator's or cast member's side. [The Workaraunt] describes the restaurant's failure mode. [Singing] describes the cast member's tell. [The Glitch] describes what actually lands on the Guest -- not a specific complaint they could articulate to a manager, just a felt sense that the interaction was hollow, a performance rather than a connection.

This is diagnostically useful because Guests experiencing [The Glitch] rarely file a complaint. Nothing went wrong in any way that shows up on a comment card. The Guest just doesn't come back with the same enthusiasm, or doesn't come back at all, and the operator has no legible signal explaining why -- because the failure was in the register [The Glitch] operates in, not in anything a satisfaction survey is built to catch.
