# Area Lead

### Definition

A lead role scoped to a defined area of the operation rather than a single discipline -- part of [The Lead Family] cluster, sitting alongside Front Lead, Back Lead, and Bar Lead as one of the named lead positions in the leadership architecture.

### Explanation

The area scope is what distinguishes this lead from a discipline lead. A Bar Lead owns a station; an Area Lead owns a zone that may cross multiple stations, which means the coaching and accountability the role carries has to hold a wider read than any single discipline lead needs. Like every role in [The Lead Family], the Area Lead's authority runs on [Role As Verb] -- the title only means something while the verb of leading that area is actively running.
